"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Looks like some decent storms coming in today. I bought two rolls of the 2mil plastic from Lowes and wrapped part of the pen. I am trying to make their environment a little dryer during these winter rains. It should also help with blocking the wind.

That must have been old. My last hatch half my eggs didn't hatch so I opened them to see why. Not one smelled bad. Pam
Pam, i did the same with my eggs that didn't hatch, all had fully developed chicks, no smell, the only inication as why they didn't hatch was the amount of clear liquid in the sack with the chicks, i attribute this to a humidity spike above 80% while i was away for several hours, some had pipped but not broken the membrane, going with a different strtigy this round, hopeing to get 23 for 23, however doubtful, still if i get 20, i will concider it a 100% success, not going above 55% to 60% humidity during lockdown this round.

I don't know how in the world my early chick hatched THAT early. My calendar says I set them in the 21st. She does have a couple more pipped. But tomorrow is actually hatch day. That makes the 1st chick a full 2 days early. So strange. Its doing super good though. Cute!
My first hatch was put in locdown on the 27th, at noon on the 28th i had my big surprise, then it was one through day 20, only 2 chicks hatched on due day, i ended up with 17 of 35 live hatch's and 2 that didn't survive.

An opportunity to grab some week old chicks just came up. I found the information on the Louisiana Tri Parish Facebook page. Thank you for posting that link.

On my way to pick up:

2 x Appenzeller Spitzhauben
2 x Jersey Giants
2 x
Maraduna Basque

All three seem like very unique breeds. I have to go to TS and grab a Heat Lamp in order to get the brooder ready.

I will post op pictures later today hopefully.

All the babies hatched. Seems we let an egg slip in there that is from my black frizzled Sizzle. Its so cute with a beard and ear muffs.

We are going to let chicks grow and weed out ones that we can't keep for our flock. I'm pretty happy with the choices we have for now. 2 weeks until the incubator hatch and then we are taking a break for a bit to see how our numbers settle.
