I'm having massive computer problems again. Gah!!!! I wanted some of the Lavender Australorps that Jennie RD promised me but she seems to have fallen off the entire planet. No answer. No reply. Sorry!!!!. I'm thrilled for you. Get some down in our area and pass along the eggs later. lol

Well Little Pip spent some time in the cup, then went back to the others. It immediately stood up, so progress! They still pester the tape, but Little Pip is getting really good at hopping away on one foot. So hopefully this improvement will continue.

Camping, that's great that your chicks had no problems hatching. The air cells must have been fine. :)
I watched the video of the hatch a couple times. Thank you for posting. I'll definitely put mine in lockdown standing up in egg cartons.

Good luck with your chick physical therapy. Sounds like it's taking a turn for the better.

Cheers, Cody. :)

Hello all

We live in Opelousas and are getting ready to build our coop. Still deciding on a chicken breed but may get a few different ones. Bantams would probably work out best since they're smaller

Then we can get more of a variety lol I love the color eggs marans lay though. But, when asked which came first, the chicken or the egg, in backyard flocks, first should come the coop! XD
Hi Humphrey, Welcome to the layers thread. :)

Things are much too quiet so here's a death metal rooster. Are things slower then they use to be? I was thinking 5K seemed a little low for the amount of time I was gone.

Hey Buggles,
That is hilarious. I'd laugh every time I heard a cock crow like that. :)
I took a look at your coop pics. You've got some impressive birds. Very exotic looking.

Why does the no reply, no answer business sound familiar!

Sorry to hear about that Linda.

Lunchtime announcement went PERFECT. Jim was happily showing me a pic of our house on Google Earth, complete with him on the lawnmower. It was taken on a Sat morning, because further down the road you can see all the cars parked at Inglewood's market.

So, I casually said, "Oh, by the way, I have some more hatching eggs coming. More Rhode Island Reds. These are from Duane Urch lines & I heard a rumour he's retiring so I was very happy to get my hands on them".

"OK".

Perfect. Now tomorrow I can tie in the fact that I happen to have some Blue Australorps coming also, since as long as I'm turning the bator back on, I may as well fill it up.

"Chicken Logic" at it's best! :highfive:

You could accidently text your husban a text you were sending to someone else about chicks you ordered. Worked for me.Lol!!

Good to know thanks. Though I live in Opelousas two hours from there. We have a swap show at the TSC here (outside) once a month. Everyone brings all kinds of things including animals. Might check it out this month but again haven't started the coop yet :( My friend has a large flock also so she said she would help me find some chicks. Her flock is entirely free range organic so I know she'll steer me in the right direction :)

Your neighbor sounds like my kind of girl! Except mine go in a coop at night.

We have a member of this thread, who lives in Opelousas, she has gree/blue hair and is fairly new to chickens also, for someone who had never owned chickens, she fell right into place with them. good luck on your new adventure, it is a good idea to forget to count past 10, or the chicken math monster will get you, i will be passing through there tomorrow on my way home from offshore,

THE CHICKEN CAME FIRST, THERE IS A PROTEIN IN THE SHELL THAT IS ONLY PRODUCED BY THE CHICKEN, SO. NO CHICKEN, NO EGG, NO COOP,LOL
