We use the ones that they peck it to get the water out. I love them no cleaning every day or 4 times a Day. They seem to like them too. We bought the nipples for 4.99 for a pack of 4. Ron went to home depot and bought the PVC pipes, elbows, caps ,etc. it was alot cheeper then buying ready made on line. Pam

I made this small one for the same reason took about 10 mins to make but saves hours of cleaning.

I have some of those gravity ones; I just screw them into the lids of small drink bottles for single waterers, for the hospital or broody box. But I'm looking at these now:

I've read that they don't leak, but they're SO much more expensive.

The others don't leak if you glue them in the bottle. We haven't had any leak in the PVC. Pam

I've been clean out everything praying for a week of no rain and my prayers were answered :) laones another suggestion for your chicks is probiotics in all the waters. And you might want to check the fermented feed thread it really does help, also if you give your chicks boiled eggs with a bit of yougert mixed in that also helps while you wait for your fermented feed to begin. I too have alot of waters and have to replace the brooder waters 3 or 4 times a day, we bought nipples and placed them on soda bottles but since we brood in totes they were to tall, so it's back to the drawing board with that...lol. Hope everyone is good.
 
Hello everyone, I use the horizontal nipples in my 2 coops. I have 1 set up on PVC pipe connected to a 5 gallon bucket hanging from the fence outside of the pen. And the other is 3 nipples screwed into the side of a 3 gallon bucket in the chicken tractor. The nipples are spring loaded so they seal better than the ones that close by gravity/water pressure. However they can drip a little, but not enough to cause a slop hole on the ground. I have also found that they will drip more if they are overtightened. Over all I love them and will only be using them in the future. They did cost a little more, but well worth the money in my opinion.
