"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I can understand that. I considered doing only hatching eggs but figured chicks were less hassle. People couldn't lie about hatch rates and demand free eggs. I kind of openly brag about the wyandotte but on the same breath will admit my Marans and japanese aren't anything special whatsoever. I figure being honest will help explain prices to people.

I would replace eggs if they were infertile (they were always fertile) but I didn't refund based on hatch rates. I can't think of a single person who asked, either.

I think I've just had some bad luck with folks. Ive had several people come to pick up birds and ask to buy my breeders as well, and get argumentative when I refuse. Or people contact me a month later after straight run chicks aren't all female.

Thank you

In better news one of my young Marans started laying. I'm hoping egg color will darken a bit. I've got some serious culling to do this spring once all the new blood begins laying

Thanks, everyone :) I think it is too late to step away from the incubator though. I now have 10 eggs from my cream legbar in there and (hangs head and mumbles) I bought 12 breese eggs on a Facebook auction and added those today also. Yep, staggering hatches. Now I have to get an extra incubator to use as lockdown unit.

How did you decide on your chick price? I know I could charge more, but even for my wyandotte that are pretty dang good quality I'm only charging $5 a chick.

I just looked at what they were going for and $10 is on the low end of the price range in my area. I don't think my birds are show quality, honestly so I figured it was a fair price.
