Your name will get out eventually and your reputation as long as you have good strong healthy birds. Eggs are pretty much a word of mouth thing. Chicks should be at least half down up front to weed out the not serious people or you're gonna end up with a crap load of unwanted chicks. Since you have that many hens maybe try giving eating eggs away till you get known locally. Good part is once people have fresh eggs they usually a customer for life. As far as chicks quite honestly barnyard mixes aren't too valuable or in demand. Maybe get a pair or two of pure breeds you like and push those. Once you're known for good birds it'll be hard to keep up but it can take years

I did hear back today. They are still not completely done with the testing but all four of the chickens I brought them had varying degrees of respiratory infection, enlarged organs, pulmonary edema, some worms in the digestive tract, coccidiosis, lice around the vent area, emaciated and just all around in bad shape. They suspect Mycoplasma but cannot confirm until analysis is complete. I am going to be working with the State vet on a path forward and how to hopefully prevent this from happening again. I have already culled all of the young birds I was growing out and I'm down to about 15 layers from which I'm getting 4-5 eggs a day. Blahhhh
Thank you and I will keep you guys updated as I hear something.

Sounds like they have given you several things that can be addressed and the vet should know how to properly address them so that is good. It's tough to have to cull, but it's better than letting an animal suffer. Once they finish the analysis and you get things cleaned up you'll be able to start on a new footing and get this behind you!

Hi I injtroduced myself a long time ago...
I live in Bethany outside of shreveport.
I have about 40 layers right now and some hens due to start inj late august.
I cant find an outlet for my eggs...I am swimming in them. Will be selling at the shreveport Farmers market. Have advertised have several signs in front of farm, use FB word of mouth....but cant get a clientele built up. Am hoping the Shreveport market will help get that going.
A lady called wanting her own floick...so I incubated them and she still wont pick them up
Another lady ordered 3 dozen duck eggs...cant get ahold of her. Sigh

I mainly have Easter Eggers...and silkies..have added astralorps, copper marans, salmon favorelle, leghorn a mix of banty's
Just recd my Mille Fluer hatching eggs and soon my Gold laced polish (frizzle) bantys.
I also have peking ducks and embden geece.

My name is Anna and I am a bit of an addict.
They are healthy and happy as they free range all day.

Looking forward to getting to know yall.

Farmers markets are a good place to make contacts with future customers. When I started looking for egg customers I would give the 1st dozen for free. It doesn't always work, but they usually come back. I sell at my kids school, the barber/hair salon, bank, etc... Places that I go to frequently so that basically they are getting free delivery too. Best of luck!

x2 on 1st doz free to get new customers. I have a early hatcher and many pips due to hatch tomorrow night. The early hatcher made my day hope it's a sign of things to come. One splash total splash the hole chick is yellow right now. This is a total dry hatch due to FBCM's I was worried about the other breeds. All breeds have pips so they are fine with it. :jumpy Can't wait to see what shows up in the morning. Hope blues and more Splashes. Some will be for sale. Marans, Some silverruds and Neiderrhinders.
Pam.

Welcome back and good luck with egg sales. Before I had all these flock health problems, I just gave eggs to family and the neighbors. I do sell a few dozen at work once in a while. It's nice to at least pay for the feed

Pam, according to wing feather sexing I have four cockerels, and the biele chick is female (it's not). I'll keep track, but I don't think it's going to work for the breeds and mixes that I have.

The ones that sexed male were my yellow chipmunk striped EE chicks. The black EE chicks all look like pullets. That stands a chance of being accurate because my yellow EEs generally end up being roos, and the black ones are half roos, half pullets.

I marked my first hatch to see if your thearoy is correct. I hope not I want my splash to de a poulet. Feather sexting doesn't work for every breed but I've found for Brest and silverruds it's pretty accurate. When mine are dry I'll show you who is Neiddhiner and who is silverrud. And how to tell male / female of those. I have seven to eight hatched right now and tonight at 9 pm is the 21st day. Pam

That would be great! I think I had two neiderrheiner hatch and two silverudd. I have four yellow chicks that look exactly alike, except one has puffy EE cheeks. I know one of them came from an RIR egg. The silverudd I can tell one of them because of the pink beak. I lost the other one in all the other black chicks.

I took this pic for the chick mug shot contest. Far left is a silverudd, middle top is EE, middle bottom is either silverudd or EE, and far right is merlerault.

The four look alikes. Puffy cheeks is up front.
