"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good morning. If I did this right, both of my new chicks are pullets. Darn, I wanted a male. Guess that there may be some more eggs in my future. Bet that will make my wife really happy!

Welcome to the group Anna. Glad to see some more people from the SHV area on here. Sorry about the people not keeping their word but that seems to be the rule rather than the exception these days.

Hey y'all im from natchitoches, la I got 2 old English bantam hens, 4 mixed bantam chicks, a rir that I hatched out, and 11 buff Orpingtons. Now I'm got some quail eggs in the incombator that should hatch next week

I got word back today from LSU......mycoplasma positive =(
Recommendation is depopulate, decontaminate and start over. The state vet is going to give me instructions for Decon and protocol for future prevention. I will let you guys know what the protocol is for informational purposes in case it happens to anyone else. I hope no one else has to deal with this but I guess mother nature has a mind of her own. Although I don't think I helped the situation going to swaps and bringing in adults and what not.....I'll probably cull the rest of the flock this weekend and start the Decontamination process. Wish me luck

At least you now know what you're dealing with. Any idea where it came from? I'm sure the first guess is swap birds...

Night before last I lost my free range rooster, last night I found out how...
Let the dog out about 1am and she went crazy barking! Walked out to find a fox trotting through the yard back toward the coop. Arggggggg...
Time to go fox hunting!!!!

Good luck I'm glad you found out what it was

Thank you!

I think so. Swaps are fun and all but I'm going to stay away, no offense to anyone

When sprinkled over wet epoxy, the blasting sand has exposed sharp edges.  But, when mixed into the epoxy, the surface is much smoother.  Somewhat like Rhino Shield.

Different boxes for breeds that are removable but keep the diff eggs seperated so that if u get an abnormality it's easier to track where it occurs.

Hey Turk.  Great idea.  Easier to keep track of breeds that look similar at hatching and, to identify any issues you'd like to keep track of.  Thanks for a great suggestion.

Campingshaws;  The Hidious-bator is kinda tall.  If I put it up on anything, the lil ones won't be able to see what's happening.  I think I will cut a window in the front of it and will incorporate one in the hatcher so they can enjoy the action as well.  Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

:highfive: no prob I've only hatched about 200 in the las six months

The Windows are good, but Think about this, Web Cams... ;)

Hi I injtroduced myself a long time ago...
I live in Bethany outside of shreveport.
I have about 40 layers right now and some hens due to start inj late august.
I cant find an outlet for my eggs...I am swimming in them. Will be selling at the shreveport Farmers market. Have advertised have several signs in front of farm, use FB word of mouth....but cant get a clientele built up. Am hoping the Shreveport market will help get that going.
A lady called wanting her own floick...so I incubated them and she still wont pick them up
Another lady ordered 3 dozen duck eggs...cant get ahold of her. Sigh

I mainly have Easter Eggers...and silkies..have added astralorps, copper marans, salmon favorelle, leghorn a mix of banty's
Just recd my Mille Fluer hatching eggs and soon my Gold laced polish (frizzle) bantys.
I also have peking ducks and embden geece.

My name is Anna and I am a bit of an addict.
They are healthy and happy as they free range all day.

Looking forward to getting to know yall.
Anna

I had the one roo that was entirely cage free, 24/7. He slept in the coop on top of a garbage can so the fox had access to him. All others are locked up tight. Looks like fox hunting is in my future.

x2 on 1st doz free to get new customers. I have a early hatcher and many pips due to hatch tomorrow night. The early hatcher made my day hope it's a sign of things to come. One splash total splash the hole chick is yellow right now. This is a total dry hatch due to FBCM's I was worried about the other breeds. All breeds have pips so they are fine with it.

Can't wait to see what shows up in the morning. Hope blues and more Splashes. Some will be for sale. Marans, Some silverruds and Neiderrhinders.
Pam.

"total dry hatch" So you added no water at any time during incubation?
