"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I stopped getting hona eggs for awhile, then I found the hen's secret nest. :rant Guess she decided the coop was too crowded with all those juvies. I'm going to sell some pairs just as soon as I decide which roos to keep. One that I liked has a weird little knob on his comb. :/[/quote]
Good here, getting ready for summer. I have my NPIP inspection next week and I'm nervous about that. The state vet had no probs with birds from non-NPIP sources (so long as they were properly quarantined) and no probs with the free range guineas. The guy I talked to today didn't seem keen on either of those... Guess we'll see.

I've got cute little fluff butts hatching! All sorts of mixes. :love

NPIP is easy they Will have you hold your bird while they take blood from under the wing they will test for mioroplasm. Then the will swab a few mouths for bird flew. He should give you a book of forms to ship out of state. If he for gets be sure to remind him. He will also show you how to fill them out and give you a book of numbers of other states. Be sure to get it all. When you ship you need to call the state your shipping to and meet their requirements too. Pam

That's what the state vet said. Originally he was coming out, but guess that changed. Dr. Roberts said he was going to test every bird over 6 mos old (which is only about 20) and the guineas. Dr. Roberts mentioned sanitation practices? Did they talk about anything like that with you?

Not to much because I asked them if their shoes were decontaminated. They assumed from that I was up on bio- security . We went over it briefly talked about common diseases around here and disinfectant etc. it was very relaxed. You know right away if you have anything they test for.from this point forward you can't buy from anyone that isn't NPIP certified. You'll be fine! Pam

I just had shipped eggs come from PA and they were in great shape! Only one was cracked, and it's just a bit of spider webbing. Air cells are loose but not totally detached. I can't wait to hatch them!

What breed did you get?
Pam

It's an assortment. Some are welsumner eggs that will hatch welsummer or OE. I can't remember the rest. I pmmed the sender but she wasn't on today. I won 6 OE and 6 sapphires, but her sapphires weren't laying well and then she sent tons of extras. I think some might be polish? Small white eggs. I'll let you know when I find out!

When I browse through the website here I notice folks who are penciling the growth of the air cells in their eggs. Some of them have 6-7 or even more lines on the eggs. Are you guys candling this often? 5 lines would indicate candling every 4 days.

How many of y'all mark the air cells or weigh the eggs to monitor weight loss?

I mark air cells, and I only use four times per incubation. Set day, 7, 14 and 18. You might see another dotted line from shipping damage, I've seen people do that but not more than that for a simple local set. Handling the eggs can cause damage if ur not careful. Clean hands r a must, and you can tear the inner membrane a lot more easily once the egg is warm vs cool, for many of my candlings I don't even need to pick up my eggs, I just incubate upright and hold the candled to each egg.

I hope everyone made it through last nights storm alright! Some of my birds are a bit wet, but they all are fine this morning
