"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Rough last hour… went out at 8 30 to do final check for nite… worthless momma was in a nesting box up in the main run. Baby was trying to get to nesting box on ground wher it knows is safe. because mom was not helping it, looks like it got pecked on eye and had a nick. I put it in the box with big momma and her chicks, she picked up her wing and let it under her. if only it would imprint on her…. Anyway i blocked off those nesting boxes, and the bad momma just clucked away. I realy dont give a fly wher3 she sleeps. shes about to catch the death rod … i knew she was a bad mom when she first started sitting. its my fault i shoulda broke her broodiness but i was greedy wanting more birds . Im gona bring the duckling in the house tomorrow probly,

oh, and looks like one of the turkeys has blackhead 🤦🏼‍♂️😔 droopy wings, ruffled dry feathers.. damit man

Sorry about your bad hen & turkey. I had turkeys with no issues for years, then lost 6 poults 2 years ago to blackhead. Vet said wait for 5 years before trying again and then keep turkeys away from the chickens. I don't really understand as I always kept them all together before.

Hi! I'm in Dry Creek. I didn't see many Louisiana people here either but they show up occasionally.

Welcome! I am in Zachary. You are about halfway between me and Texas.
I have about 15 chickens but only a couple are named. "Emu" is the name of my one wing Easter Egger roo. I have a silkie roo that someone dumped here called Shortie.
And there's one mean dark grey mixed breed hen called "The Dragon Hen" because when she is broody she sinks back into her nest and strikes out at any thing that comes near.
I have a few different breeds, 2- 4 week old chicks (I think one of them is a roo) and the local feed store is supposed to get me 6 brown leghorns. Have you had chickens a while?

I don't think it is a problem selling locally but you might want to check with some of those people who go to all the poultry swaps/farm days. Many local feed stores and TSCs have them monthly.
