"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I was offline for some months now, trying to gently step back in. HaydenGoseek, I am very sorry for the loss of your wife. I am sure she is missed on the forum. I was not aware that y'all were married. I confess...Ursuline Chick? I guess I figured that she was a nun.😟

Any of you need chicks? Have ~30 ready to go now; and another 20-30 within the next month. Polish, turken, marans, welsummer, olive z& easters. Moms are all what i listed. Dad will either be olive or easter. So interesting crosses on future egg color

I will forward your info to someone but they are really looking for barred rocks. They may want some marans, too.

Hi there! Does anyone here think that one week oldish chicks need a heat light right now? I keep them in the shed at night…it is about 90 degrees in there right now. Usually by morning it’s about 85 degrees but the heat light has been on at night only.

Definitely not. This time of year my babies neber see heat lamp. But 75% are raised under broodies now. The others i will raise sometimes for a few days while mom finishes hatching if some early; heat only at nite for 1-2 days. Then nothing. That being said im a STRONG supporter of OUTSIDE AT DAY ONE (i have a biddy pen next to big birds) and little to no heat. I keep it natural as can be. I hatch around 100-150 a year depending on broodies; or if i need to keep some for myself. I sell them when there 2wks to a month old. I only lose 5-10 a yr. Most of that is by weak / struggle to survive. I lost 2 earlier this yr but it was at that fine line in march/ april being just a touch cool at nite. And the mom had rejedted them . You know that in the first few days who the runts are and to watch out for.

So everyone was fine this morning! It was 82 degrees in the shed… I have done this so many times that I should just know these things… and while I do I always still need reassurance cuz when I get these itty bitty babies I turn into a nervous Nelly!šŸ˜¬šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« And freak out over the smallest things šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø and I am especially nervous about these cuz they are tiny bantams and two are frizzled… so that’s new to me! Here they are a few days ago….
