Julie, I will be bringing a used Little Giant incubator to sell for $30.00. I have had it for about four years and it has been used many times but it is in good working condition. I am switching over to a cabinet incubator and have a couple of small styrofoam incubators that I will get rid of. I would sell a couple more but still have eggs in them.

I'm using 2 Little Giants still air bators and we do fine,. It can be confusing,.. because there are sooo many differing opinions,. but you will be fine,. I worried so much over my first hatch,. I didn't sleep for 3 weeks,.. now I know what works for us and am much more relaxed. You will learn so much asking about it at the Expo!

I think the $30.00 deal Twiley has is a good one,. they are 45.00 at TSC,..

but beware,. it IS so addictive,.

I have another WWYD question......

A potentional customer has contacted me (thru my website) and would like to begin purchasing my chicken eggs. The only problem is, this person wants to meet at a location that is 9 miles from my job. I told him the area where I worked and he said that this would be a halfway point. I want to make sure that I am not wasting my time AND gas money as far as delivering these eggs to this person and not make a "profit". There is a VERY little profit if any at all in selling eggs but anyway. I only sell my eggs for $1.50 at this time but will probably be raising prices to $2.00 per dozen as feed and gas have increased. The customer wants 3 dozen eggs. This is only $4.50. So, is the trip to meet him to deliver the eggs worth it or should I tell him that I am not able to drive that far. At this point, I don't want to because I think that is too far to drive just for $4.50. Should I ask him if he can meet me closer to my place of employment. For me to drive that far, I would have to require a minimum purchase set. Kinda like food delivery. What are your thoughts? Is it worth it?

Julie I wouldn't drive that far just for 3 dozen eggs -- ask him if he can go in with some neighbors or somebody & boost it to 6-8 dozen & then it might be worth the drive once a week....otherwise, no, w/the price of gas he needs to come to where you work if he wants them. and you definitely need to raise your prices to $2.00 at least! I noticed in the grocery store the other day the supposed "organic, free range, etc" eggs are selling for $3.80 a dozen! I had a good laugh out of that!

I had 7 eggs on Lockdown. Have had 5 hatch. I had no pips or anything on the last 2 so I moved the babies into the brooder a little while ago. I quickly candled the last 2 eggs and I believe they both quit a few days/week ago. There is about a 1/2 " on the big end that is light and I can see and I know they should be completly black!! So would you leave them in there till tomorrow or trash them?? I have 9 eggs that I have to put on lockdown tomorrow before I leave to go to Monroe!! What's your opinion??

OK I'll take a shot at your question: ordinarily, if it were me, I'd leave them in because I have had eggs hatch a day later than the others - having said that, since you've been in & out of your 'bator so much & from your description, I agree w/you that they are probably quitters. I'd float them - just for one last test -- heat a pan of water to 100 degrees & gently lower each one in, one at a time & watch -- they should float & after the water settles, if anything is alive in there you'll see movement in the water.

I would not risk leaving them in there with 9 going into lockdown - if one explodes it will ruin the entire hatch. Plus you need to re-sterilize your 'bator before you put the other 9 in lockdown, so you're sort of on a time crunch now.

When you candle them can you see any movement at all.You should be able too if they are alive

Now that was cool......

Did the first one and only the large end of the egg floated. Once it stopped it didn't have any movement at all. Now the 2nd one on the other hand we put in there and it settled and started rocking back and forth. Made my husband come look just to make sure and it's starts rocking again. Quickly dried it off and placed it back in there. Did the other one again and nothing no movement at all!! So. I'm going to throw that one away.

Now I just need to pray that this one comes out. If it comes down to it I can run to TSC and buy a LG but that would only give me a day & night to try and get the temps steady.
