I am so sorry for your loss. I know the feeling to lose a hen. That makes me sad.

I thought it was just me. I don't use an incubator but when my girls are broody, I place the LARGEST eggs picked under my broody girls. The big eggs cannot be sold or eaten.

That's one thing I don't worry about is my dogs. 2 of mine will chase after them every once in a while but it's not with maliace.

Hey ya'll,. been to busy to post,.. just reading and keeping up with what's going on,.
Great tractors guys! Makes me want to try,. GOT to finish this new coop first!

Brian keeps getting so much side work that he's never here,.. with everyone hiring my DH to be their handyman,.. I may need to hire one of my own!

Missi and Twiley,. I'm so sorry about you losses,. it's very sad,. it's only been a few months since we lost our favorite roo to a hawk,. chicken keeping is not easy,.. EVERYTHING wants our pretty chickens,.

Missi,.. do you know what your pretty girl died from? Is there any danger to your flock?

Cajun_Magnolia I said hi in the newbie thread,. but I'm glad you jumped right in here with us,. welcome again,..

Oh yea,.. we put the crawfish and shrimp shells in the compost and the flock loved them,. scratched and clucked and ate for ages,.. I already use lots of cayenne in their diet so this was just extra for them but the chitin in the shells is super healthy,.. and I saw some gobbling up the stuff we left in the heads,.. today they are loving the bugs that are coming to shells,.

Julie,.. you seem to have broodies so often,.. we just hatched some BO's hoping for a good broody hen,.. which of your flock to you find make the best broodies,. which go broody most often?

I would give up these incubators if I could!!!!!
