"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Wow that's something about your broodies Julie! I wonder why my cousin's banties got along OK? he didn't mention them stealing eggs - he had them all in his super-duper cinderblock predator-proof coop - it used to be a well house & he converted it after weasels wiped out most of his flock during the winter. Maybe because it's really large? I know they were well spread out because he sent me pics of them setting on their nests.

That's interesting about the prednisone; I know it can have pretty fierce side effects in people too sometimes! I hope you find a cure for your turkey. At least he's happy & I know couldn't be in better hands!

There's a wasp nest in the tractor! I just built the darn thing.

Tractor Supply didn't have the watering nipples, so I got some 1 gallon waterers instead. The chicks went straight to the drink, and the Marans just keep pecking the top of the thing.

Just built a coop and need some chickens. I would rather buy some a few months old. Im only looking for three or so. Can someone point me in the right direction? Oh, Im in New Orleans

Hi Louisiana friends! Is there anybody here that is affected by the floods....or will be affected rather? I live in Morgan City and there is talk of evacuations. I'm concerned obviously...but I have the chicks that i have NO Idea what to do with. It breaks our hearts to think of leaving them, but I don't know many hotels that will take 8 6 weeks old chickens..lol I'm scared for my family obviously...and will leave if told to do so, but I just don't know what to do about the 'girls'. Do you all have any suggestions?

I just talked to my husband...he said that's exactly what we would do with them. We have a HUGE dog kennel (for a great dane, that I also would have to evacuate..rofl) that they would fit in and we would just leave that in the back of the (covered) truck. I am feeling better now. I had one heartbroke 7 year old there for a bit.

Kuntrygirl - thank you for the advice..o.k. - will keep them seperate ..my game hen will hatch her chicks Sunday.. Is it easier to move a hen at night AFTER the eggs hatch? She has never been friendly... My buff orp is in the coop with 3 other BO hens ,using a large dog kennel as house I can keep all together if I partition a space for mama.. The game hen is in a sectioned off part in the coop...thought I could just let her join the flock with chicks...read thats a "no no"...will put her in the broody pen where she can see the flock and they can see her...will move the RIR roo to "Her" space... sounds like musical chairs but I think it will all work out.....Thank you again for helping me to make a sound decision.....a disaster was about to happen....Ha....G

Grambysfarm, Someone actually messaged me from New Orleans that is going to sell me some a couple months old. Thanks for the offer for sure. Cant wait to get them. Should finished my coop this weekend. Cajun Rose, Hotels can be pretty understanding during evacuations. I had a friend that had one of those small pigs during Katrina and they got clearence to stay at the Holiday Inn during evacuation in Texas. LOL Everyone in the hotel hated to see him leave. They fell in love with him, the pig, not my friend. LOL

You're welcome. Yes, you are correct. It is easier to move a hen at night, especially after her eggs have hatched. I have a hen that I call Leona Helmsley (Queen of Mean), so I totally understand about hens not being friendly. I have 2 game hens as well and they are not too friendly. Will rip a bear's head off if he gets too close to her babies.

Good Luck with the musical chairs. That's what it's all about.

Please keep us posted on the hatches and the babies. I can't wait for an update.
