OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT thing is LONG !!!!!!! They did the right thing in killing it. Sorry, but snakes have no chance at my place. I don't care what kinda snake it is. It is HISTORY!!!!

My first chicken coop, years ago, was built off the ground. That's the one I reached in & grabbed a snake instead of an egg one day... took care of snake with a .410 (yes, it was non-poisonous; no - it didn't matter to me - if it's THAT big I don't take time to weigh the pros & cons, sorry). I also after that put old light bulbs into the nest, on the advice of an old-time chicken raiser - & I never saw a snake again. Theory is the snakes swallow the light bulbs, they burst inside when the snakes squeezes them & kill the snake. Don't know for sure if that works & you can't get those kind of light bulbs anymore, anyway, so guess it doesn't matter.

My current coop is on the ground but I have hardwire cloth on all ventilating areas. So far, so good, no snakes. *knocking on wood*.

I hope that everyone is having a great memorial day weekend. Please be careful if you are traveling. There will be a lot of people drinking and driving, so stay off of those roads if you can help it.

It has been so hot lately. I hate going outside on the weekends. I try to get up early in the morning to do the chores and I run back inside. I am so exhausted from working in the yard, I find myself taking naps during the day on the weekends. It will be 97 degrees on Friday.

I am not looking forward to it. The animals know to run for the shade on those hot days. I hope that it won't be too hot this summer.

Be safe everyone.

Someone had given me 15 guinea eggs a few weeks ago and I placed all 15 eggs under one of my hens. I didn't think that they would all hatch because I thought that the hen was too small to cover all 15 eggs. Well, when I went out to check on her, this is what I found. They hatched on Day 27.

The first check:

The second check. She has hatched 11 of them so far. I placed the other 4 eggs under another broody hen that had broke all but 1 of her eggs. I hope that these 4 eggs hatch, so that she will have a few babies.

More baby ducks. This poor mama bad been trying to hatch babies for 3 years. Unfortunately, she is the only one of this breed that I have, so there was no way that she was going to get babies. It just wasn't working with the male crested duck and mallard. So, I decided to slip some muscovy eggs under her weeks ago becasue I knew that the eggs would hatch. After checking on the broody hens, I heard loud chirping and I ran over to her pen and I found her and her 8 babies.
