Thanks TerriLaChicks, I was hoping that I didn't need to get a roo for the wyandottes. I may end up with one if I see that I can sell the eggs and need more that just a few layers. But for now I'm gonna stick with just the hens.

I have a total of 70 Muscovy ducks right now (Adults and ducklings). I am ready to depart with some at any time. Just let me know how your hatching goes and if you need some. I'm sure within the next month or so, I will be up to no less than 100 ducks. With 4 girls setting on eggs right now, I know the last broody hens have been setting on 8 - 10 eggs at one time, so these are probably the same way. And it's not over yet.

So I ordered 9, and I got 14 roosters that they included for 'warmth' during shipping. Just giving you a heads up

I started out wanting 4 hens and I was mad that TSC would not sell me 4 (min of 6). Then I decided on 6, but got 8 since some would die or be Roos. Then I built for 16 and decided it was a waste to not fil up. So, 16. Get your chicks all at once. Then you brood once, you don't have to be bothered with quarantines, your birds will get along from the get go, etc.
My complaint on mypetchicken was the shipping. A $40 order of 8 chicks would have cost $50 to ship.
Where do you live? I got my chicks at the Covington feed store. They are from Ideal, they have lots of variety. Healthy, pretty birds.
 
Ok, I can't figure out how to only quote certain parts of the text so I didn't quote any of it.

But I am from Mer Rouge. Just outside of Bastrop. I know TSC has baby chicks, but I am wanting specific breeds. That is why I was thinking of ordering them.

Oh No! I am definitely wanting more than 3. I know that I want at least 3 wyandottes, 2 or 3 silkies, and 2 or 3 Frizzled Cochins. But I'm sure I won't stop there.
 
Oh wow! I didn't realize that about the shipping costs. That's just Crazy!! I went to that site just to see what it would cost to ship the wyandottes. For 3 females they were only 10.50 and the dang shipping was $35.95. I'm going to have to figure out another way to get the chickens I want.
 
Feeding chickens rice>> What are yall's input. I get free rice from time to time. Even if you buy rough rice its like $5 for 50 pounds. I get what I call broken rice that is swept up at a rice dryer and rough rice, pretty much whole rice with the shaff on still. I feed all my chickens mostly laying pellets and will continue everyday to give them mostly pellets. But I was thinking about mixing in say maybe 75% pellets and 25% rice to make the feed go longer or even 70/30. I think personaly that its a myth about rice being so bad for chickens. Two people have told me they feed there chickens alot of rice.. Like the web link I posted below says "in louisiana all sorts of birds eat a alot of rice from rice fields" and im sure they have very simular digestive systems.. interesting link read if have a minute.
