Hello to my chicken friends ,

Was reading about how long ya'll keep birds on the chick starter and see I made an error . Once my birds got fairly large ( they are is big as my RIR ) I started feeding laying pellets . Oyster shell is provided . Being a newbie , is it okay to keep them on the pellet or do I need to go back to chick starter ? Okay on a scale from 1-10 how bad did i goof

Ya'll please stay cool , check on the elderly and house bound . I know times are hard, but those box fans are cheap compared to saving a life .

Uh possums are so nasty looking, I eat anything and everything, more than some of you would probably like to know but I draw the line at possum. Lucky my Lab keeps them out my yard and away from my chickens..

These are general guidelines -- now you know what to do next time.

Chickens are kinda like raising children. When we first have children, We don't know what we're doing a lot of the time but we muddle along trying to figure things out. In the meantime, our children are quite resilient and growup in spite of our mess ups. About the time we think we've figured things out our children start having children. Thereafter, for the rest of our lives our children drive us crazy making some of the same mistakes raising their children that we made when raising our children. And, of course, our children usually won't listen to our GOOD advice because they thing we're "old fashioned".

And, so goes the circle of life!!!

Don't sweat it! Enjoy your chickens!!

So they are 10 weeks old and on lay pellets? If so, you need to get them off of the lay pellets ASAP!

Okay , will do ! Thank you !

They shouldn't have lay pellets until they are 5 months old (egg laying age). Pellets too soon will cause internal damage. Lay pellets have extra calcium and can possibly cause kidney problems. Their tiny bodies are not ready for eggs just yet.
