Every day I open and take the hen out myself and make her walk around and eat with the rest. I do also leave water and handfull of pellets in the box to.

Just doing a quick checkup on everybody.
Went from the pea patch and now having to do the butterbean patch and the okra has to picked 3-4 times a week.

...Hope you find out something soon on the sick birds. You said it was only the free range birds that are getting sick and dying?
I was just wondering if any of the scraps and garden veggie scraps that they are able to get to had started to spoil any? Most if not all of the symptoms
you listed is consistent with botulism poisoning and the high temps and humidity that we have been having lately it helps botulism to thrive. I know it's frustrating when
they get sick and you are not able to figure out the problem and stop it on your own.

Mike hope you get to felling better soon.
Will check in later. Now in the process of planting about 3 acres of peas, green limas, and butterbeans for a fall crop.

Whiskey Bay -- you are too much!

Gracie, I'd love to see your blue female. Again, you may have sent me one but they grow so fast -- an updated picture would be great. I'll let you know if I end up with a blue gander. I don't want to keep too many ganders because I'm just not set up for too many right now.

Here are updated pictures of my blue sebastopol geese:

The first picture is a close up, and the second picture is of the two of them side by side. You'll notice that the back is already very curly but the breast isn't. The breast takes a little longer for the curly feathers to fill in but it will eventually get there.

Here are updated pictures of my blue saddlebacks.... uh..., buff saddlebacks???

Interestingly, I drove to Missouri to get six goslings in hopes of getting a couple lavendar ones, and hopefully a curly buff saddleback to breed with my split to buff gander so that I could breed for curly buff saddlebacks. When my goslings feathered out to be blue saddlebacks I was OK with that because they were so pretty. Now, my blue saddlebacks are changing colors. It looks like I'm back on track with my plan to breed for curly buff saddlebacks. I'm so confused!

1) Blue cheek saddleback. The blue color is slowly changing from blue to buff. Notice even the cheek color is giving way to buff.

2) Blue back saddleback. Notice the tail section has already changed to buff. I'm assuming the rest will follow suit.

3) Spotted buff. Same as above, everywhere that used to be blue is changing to buff. One thing interesting about this one is the black spot on the neck. I haven't noticed that before but will have to see if it's dirt or feathers. If it's feathers it would indicate that this one is a saddleback gene carrier.

4) This one is the most interesting one to me. She was solid white until just recently. Now her tail and back is turning buff.

Something else interesting about her is that she has two black feathers on her back that suggest she is also a saddleback gene carrier. The picture has a lot of glare but it's the two feathers closest to my hand.

Sebastopol geese are lots of fun because aside from being so pretty and friendly they keep you in suspense with regards to their sex and color.
