Hey Twiley!! How's the new coops coming at your place??? Any progress??

Dog prison is completed except for paint and wire. I'm planning to use it in the short term to move my geese. I have to get my geese out of my yard so that the yard has time to recover before we show the house to sell in a couple of months. Chicken coops haven't been started yet. I think I'll need to build a couple of temporary ones in the interim. I can move a couple of my pens onto our property next door to transition during our move until my pens are all built.

I need to cull my chickens to get rid of some of them.

What does your book on standards say about Silver Sussex? I didn't purchase a book yet

I'm sending you a PM

I wanted to show ya'll something kinda neat! (At least to me it is!) First let me tell you this. I tried growing gourds one time and they turned out to be some ugly things. Not the big birdhouse kind I wanted. The year before that some friends gave me two. One started rotting and I threw it in the compost bin. Well all of a sudden I had these vines growing all over the place and it ended up being a beautiful gourd vine that I think we got about 30 gourds from. Now fast forward 2 years later, compost pile has been moved about 300 ft away from that area and no gourds have been placed in this one. A few weeks ago we noticed vines growing out of it and sure enough it's another gourd vine we have no clue where this one came from! It's the craziest thing!!

This is a pic from the entire area that it's growing in!

This is on the horse pasture side!! It's also growing all on my neighbors side too!!

And here's some of the gourds that are easy to find growing on the fence!!

At my place, it seems they start laying eggs the day they are born.

Just joking. The typically begin laying eggs at 5 months old. And whey the start, you better watch out. They are laying machines!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they go broody often. They are excellent mothers though and very protective of their young.

The older group has the green color pattern. I will try to take some pics of them on tomorrow when I get back from workso that you can see that they look like.

Your color group over there sounds NICE!

That is cool!

Does anyone know where I can get some mirlitons to start growing. I dont even know if you start with a mirliton itself or a piece of vine or root or what.

I just got these guys last week. Some of them actually have a barring pattern to some of them.Look on my FB page and I have pics of them from the day I picked them up.Their not that good of pics cause they were having a blast in the mudhole the Pekins made from the rain. They hadn't had a water hole where I got em from.. One of the hens is real cute. She has a fawn/chocolate body color and blue wings....lol...Another hen has a lacey/barring pattern on her back. I think they are supposed to be about 4 months old. Also have a white hen who was supposed to be laying, but hasn't yet....
