Yep it is HOT!!! Well i goofed and pt some quail eggs in the incubator a while back and I don remember when so lol guess I'll just have to wake up to some babies lol... And I really need to make sOme pens for the quail lol they are every where hahha and hubby is going nuts lol .. Well hope everyone has a nice evening

On the duck eggs, I think a lot of people are just not hatching right now because it's too darn hot. Several of my hens are broody right now. I just let them keep their eggs. I picked up a little Buff Orpington chick that hatched yesterday under one of my buff hens. I need to check to see if their are others that hatched today. I've been busy today and haven't checked on my broody hens yet.
 
Hope everyone is doing good today.Been hot as heck today,even with the rain.Tried to get some stuff done today,just kinda useless when I can't get anyone to help me...lol... I am selling off a bunch of wire cages I built when I had my OEGB.Now that I'm thinning out,and sold off most of the bantams,I have no real need of them.So I'm planning on cutting the waterers and pulling the cages out.I have a 24x24 coop with raised cages along the outsides. I'm planning on taking them all out and split the coop into 2 12x24 runs.Going to keep the tin over the back half and wire over the front half.It's all open now,but I plan on closing in the back half also along the outsides.The tin from the front half will go to finish the top of the last 2 1/2 pens in the row I been working on.My brooders are going to stay in the big coop along the back wall. So much I want to get done...lol...
 
Well the news is not good. I got home from work and only 12 out of 50 hatched. None of the penedesenca eggs hatched. The old adage is true not to count your chickens before they hatch. I will check again in the morning. The humidity in the house may be too low. Im not sure what the problem was but I will get some more eggs and try again.

I'm sorry to hear that! I never had a problem w/low humidity, in fact I run it low deliberately - I have had a ton of problems with shipped eggs though. My own hatch w/no problems so I know it's the shipping part that does me in.
 
Good morning La-yers! hope you are all well today. I just signed up for unemployment online so that's checked off my list. Now I'm off to take a walk while it's still cool-ish & then I have to go repair the sun netting over the peacocks' pen - one side fell down. Then I have to go ship a package to my friend in NY & pick up some cat chow & back home to try & stay cool! Have a good one everybody!

My broody hen is stubbornly hanging in there, I don't how many times a day I pick her up & bring her outside & she's back on that nest before I get back to the house. I sure don't want any more chicks in this heat so I've been removing the egg from her every day - I only had 2 eggs yesterday, guess it's just too hot for them to even think about laying & I can't blame them.

I am starting to rethink that broodies are a good thing!

Good morning everyone. What a weekend! This was my feed buying weekend, so I was busy with loading and storing feed. I am so exhausted. The heat didn't help at all. I can't wait for cooler temps. I didn't get any rain this weekend. Only a little drizzle on last night. But that was about it.

I hope that everyone is doing and feeling ok. Congrats to everyone who has had hatches over the past few days.

I have some good news and bad news. The good news is that I had 20 more muscovy ducklings to hatch over the weekend. The bad news is that the little bit of sanity that I re-gained from selling a bunch of muscovys was lost when I saw the new baby ducklings. I'm back at square one.

I only have 2 more girls (i think) to hatch out babies, unless some of the girls are hiding their nest (like they did last year), to only bring their babies back after they hatch.

I have been picking all of the other eggs for people who want the duck eggs for baking and hatching. I'm DONE with hatching. It's too hot for all that.
