"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to talk to the neighbor tomorrow and see what we can work out. I was glad when he got the rooster cause I am told he will help keep the predators away from my two girls as well. He is a beautifull Ameraucana. There is a rooster two or three blocks away and its pretty cool to hear him during the day.

Hey everybody! I know whatcha mean about it being hot! When Im outside filling up my Chickens waterers i cant resist spraying myself with the water hose half the time! Is anybody else's coop getting really muddy with all the rain??

I feel so lucky that i havnt had any predator problems so far. Ive just had my chickens since April, so i hope i'm not jinxing myself. We have really bad coyotes, dogs, bobcats, and cats. Everytime i hear some noise outside i completly freak out because im scared something has finally figured out where the chickens are!

to the La-yers...

Yep Mucky, stinky... It's finally starting to dry up. Knock on wood in the 3 years since I've had chickens I've never lost one to a predator and they used to free range from dawn till dusk!!

BTW: What part of La are you from??

The only coop that gets muddy is the Guinea Pen. That is a mess when it rains. The hay that I put down has helped tremendously. All of the other coops are ok. The chicken yard is muddy in spots. There was been some discussion about the use of sand in our chickens coops and run. You might want to consider that.

Congrats on getting your chickens in April. What breed do you have? Just make sure that your chicken coops are secure and nothing can get in them. I'm glad that I don't have a predator problem but I have been thinking about buying baby monitors and placing them in the coops, so that I can hear what is going on out there in the unfortunate event something trys to sneak in. I just don't know how far away the device can be and still pick up noise and sound transmissions. I think the coops are too far away from my house to pick up any sounds. I'll have to check that out.

Glad to have you here.
