How is everyone handling the time change?

Just a safety tip with the time change.

When I get home from work at 5:30 PM, it is almost as dark as 12:00 MIDNIGHT. I have to run in and get into my work clothes to begin my chores. Because it's already so dark outside and I can't see if anyone is walking onto my property, I take my house keys with me and lock ALL house doors and then I walk to the chicken yard and begin my chores. If someone were to walk up and enter my house, I would never know with it being so dark outside and the chicken coops are far away from the house, I wouldn't be able to see them. So to eliminate all inside attacks or robberies, I just lock everything up before working in the chicken yard.

Many of you probably don't have to worry about that because you have family (husbands, wives, children) at home and that is good. But for those who are at home alone and have to go out and deal with the chickens, please be careful. You never know what criminal is watching.

That's a smart thing to do Julie!!

Though my dogs would alert me before they could ever get in the house!! I can't stand this time change. Like you say it's already so dark at 5:30 in the afternoon. I can't stand leaving for work at 4:15 in the morning and it's dark and getting home around 5:30 and it's dark. I have to do everything via a flashlight. I like to be able to look them over everyday but that doesn't happen. I really wish they would do away with it!!

So what you're saying is that you'd like Daylight Savings Time all year. That would be fine with me, too!

I can't figure it out. I heard a couple of years ago that the federal government was trying to change it.

I heard that too!! I don't care if it's 9:00 and still daylight outside. I just can't stand it to be 5:30 and pitch dark outside!!

Well just put a couple chicks in the brooder from the bator. Might do some processing this weekend to thin out a little. Have a good weekend everyone!

Good tips Julie -- we have dusk to dawn lights outside that light up everything but the very back of the coop -- I always bring a bright flashlight w/me out there. I think they are phasing out the time change over the next few years, & I'm sure OK with that!
