Good morning Julie & everybody! up & at 'em here. Just found out BOTH of my folks are now sick with this upper respiratory/sinus crud going around. My uncle & aunt are both in the hospital with pneumonia that started with this crud. I called my Dr yesterday & had him call in a prescription to have on hand "just in case" I sure don't need it & neither does Jim! Seems like this stuff goes around every year this time of year.

At least the Solstice has passed and now the days will start getting longer!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas
Hoping all your wishes come true and a safe happy weekend for all

Merry Christmas to everyone! Boy, I’m a happy camper today…..I’m off of work until Tuesday unless there is an emergency /accident at work or something like that!!!! Never the less, I woke up to 2 hatched chicks with 3 more eggs that peeped in the night. I put 6 eggs in lock-down Wednesday night so hopefully I will have 6 Barred Rocks chicks altogether sometime today.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the birthday wishes….I have a bunch of 20yr olds that work for me and I’m still trying to get use to them referring to me as Mr. or Pops or Old Man ect ect.. To me that’s really funny to hear them say that stuff. I don’t feel much different today then I did 20 years ago….well maybe a few more aches and pains but I’m happy and life is good!!!! I got a great wife and an awesome little 2yr old girl so I don’t have anything to complain about.

Well I hope you all have a great Christmas weekend and that Santa brings you everything you all asked for!!!!

Chris

I'm not looking for any, but I was wondering, why are they called "paint" in silkies and are, I assume, "splash" in other breeds? or is paint something altogether different in color varieties? or does it have to do with the genetic makeup of the paint gene?

They are very pretty birds!

It's altogether different due to genetics. In splash, the colors are on the "tops" of the feathers....with paints, the entire feather is black. They are spotted like dalmations or paint horses. A few people have been breeding them in the US the past few years & they are just becoming available as all produced were kept as breeders. I'll try to get a pic of the chicks as soon as I can...cooking now for Christmas.

Merry Christmas, everyone! (Or, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, whatever you're in to). I'm getting ready-boiling some of my girl's eggs as we speak for gumbo and potato salad. Yum.

I sold 3 of my roosters this morning, along with the two chicks I had.

Very happy about that!

I have 13 days left (max) to carry this baby. My doctor set up an induction, so I'll be laying my own egg soon, and I'll be home in time to watch the BCS game from the comfort of my living room.

Congrats on getting rid of the roos and counting the days down! That's AWESOME news!

My neighbor use to have a chicken that was spotted like a damnation. I never knew what it was. I named the chicken Dalma.

Good morning everyone.

Terri, I'm excited about you hatching peachicks. I hope you a perfect hatch. That is so exciting. A pot of soup and cookies sound yummy. Perfect weather.

It was sprinkling a bit outside towards the end of my feeding the animals.
