"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm excited about me hatching peachicks too! Julie we'll have to get together & do a swap or something-- I need India Blues! my boys are pretty but they don't have that what I call "traditional" peacock coloring & I want one! Also I will be glad to incubate your pea eggs for you too, just let me know!

OK butter ought to be soft enough now to start the cookies!
It's very much colder outside now than it was at sunrise when I went out to let the chickens out. Looks like it'll start raining any time now.

Just wondering.....

How long does it take you all to make your morning rounds feeding and such?

My day starts off the same everyday...get-up a 5, shower, feed the inside cat (1), go outside and feed the dogs (3), feed the outside cats (3-4), then head over to the barn. I usually have to bring the two girls in (pregnant mares) and drop feed and water them. Feed and water the filly with the bum leg (she stays in all the time). Then go feed the old man (retired 30+ yr old gelding) in his pasture and the donkey in his pasture. After I'm done with the horses, I head over to the coop and make sure the girls have water and feed and let them out into the run. Then head back to the house and take care of all the chicks (right now about 30 or so in three different brooders) and make sure that everyone has clean water and feed. Finally round all the dogs up and head back in the house. At that point I either get ready to leave for work (about an hour and twenty minute drive), cook breakfast (scrambled eggs or an omelet, lol) for the wife and little one or come on here and see what you guys are doing. I usually knock it all out in about an hour or so including breakfast.

I guess I'm just curious what others have to do first thing in the morning. Most of my friends are all in the New Orleans / Metairie (south shore) area and think that I'm nuts. We had my in-laws stay at our house and watch the baby and take care of the animals while we went out of town for a few days and they were wore out when we got back. They have not been back to visit since...lol!!!!

Jeff you are SO bad!

It takes me about 30-45 minutes in the mornings, about 45 minutes to an hour in the evenings these days. That's for the regular got-to-be-done-no-matter-what chores. I can drag that out longer on the weekends when I have time to do more. Right now we are in "winter survival mode" so I can race home from work & throw out feed to the evening feeders, lock up the rest, etc. This will all get easier once Jim is able to get off his crutches & out of his walking cast -- you can't do much with a walking cast in a muddy run right now!!

But I like the time when I can take the time, you know what I mean? to watch them & enjoy seeing them eat & scratch around & interact. It's my down time. My 'me' time. I try to do that every day or two, either in mornings or evenings. I'm so glad the days will start getting longer now. I love the long summer hours.

Hope everybody has a wonderful & Blessed rest of the Christmas weekend.
