Can anyone recommend a good dehydrator? I want to dehydrate fruits, veggies and nuts. And of course cheapo deapo (ME) doesn't want to spend a lot of money.

I never was near either of them enough to know that. But I plan on having both in the future at some point... But smells in the country, you get used to. Where I grew up, I was used to the smell of a stockyard.

Is it just me, or do you find that the goats have more of an "odor" than the sheep?

dehydrators are bad. they take the water out. and your body needs water to survive. I don't see the point in having this equipment. I have ate dehydrated pears and apricots before, they were good.. but if you think about it.. the plant absorbs the water for its survival, if you are going to eat the plant...well just think of the mexicans, they eat cactus, because it has water in it for survival in the heat. and most watermelons are only available to eat in the summer.

I had a cheapo one for years & never was much impressed by it, last year I bought (after much research) a Nesco/American Harvest FD-80 square dehydrator - Amazon.com about $60 - it's terrific! put up loads of tomatoes, squash, zucchini, figs - I took the dried produce & vac-sealed it in my foodsaver (great steal off Ebay) -- takes up much less room in the freezer/shelf & very easy to reconstitute. I'm very glad I bought it. It does jerky too but haven't tried meats yet. And the square shape enables you to stack more stuff in it.

Ran home at lunch & have 1 RIR chick out & 3 more eggs pipped & more rocking & cheeping all over the place - I think this is going to be a good hatch for shipped eggs & I'm so happy with the Brinsea!

this is the one I have. Best thing about it is the adjustable thermostat - it makes for even drying.

I would be interested. TSC is 2 minutes from my place. I also use two different feed stores all close to TSC that I think would be interested in having something like this at their place as well.

O'Keefe's is good. I buy all my horse feed from there!
