"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Been prety busy over this way making dewberry jelly and mayhaw jelly. Have more mayhaws cooking off now and more in the freezer to cook off. Got a few pictures of part of the jelly.
Missi, saw your add on craigslist and the turkeys are tempting me. I wanted to go to the Watson swap tomorrow but I guess I will be trying to sell jelly over this way tomorrow and see if I can dodge some of the rain. Anybody need any jelly let me know.

Hey all! Its been a lil bit because I been workin my butt off! Babies are all doing AWESOME!! Much thanks to Kuntrygirl who gave me the cahones to try my own kind of (people medicine adjusted) chicken medicine (btw levaquin crushed up and mixed with water, given with a syringe, at about 50-100mg depending on size works awesome!) No specific recommendations, but support on the courage part, so much love and respect for someone else not wanting to give up on babies!

I wish one of them would just lay a darn egg already! I wish I knew for sure if they were girls in the first place though! A couple of them should be 5 months an not laying yet! Ugh!! So frustrating! Healthy chickens eat so much more than sick chickens! Wow! They were finishing their feeder every 4-5 days before the meds, and now it is every 1.5 to 2 days! Amazing!! These are the funniest animals I have ever had!!

Congrats to EVERYONE on the new babies! I can't wait till one of mine goes broody! I know which one it will be, but can't wait till she does it!! I wanna get turkey eggs and have her hatch them!!

Just be patient, they don't all start laying at 5 months... Some take longer!!

For a first time chicken owner, every day seems like an eternity though!! I know you remember that feeling! LOL!!!
Ha Ha that's the truth but I got lucky when I got my first chickens a friend gave me 3 hens and a rooster so I was getting eggs immediatly, but all the other after that it was just a waiting game!!

Chris, the Brown one by itself and the 3 bigger white ones are all the same age 6-7 weeks, I was told the white ones were cornish white rocks and the brown one was a red pullet. Im trying to figure out hen or roo and if the salesman was right about the breed. I also have two 3 week olds one is the same color as the brown one in the pic but with less white and another white one with black patches in its wings, I tried to catch them both in a pic too but the brown one took off into the coop and it started raining again lol

The two on the board in the first pic look like roos. The one in the front for sure but it's hard to see the one in the back. My guess is both are roos from this pic.
The two white birds on the ground next to the board and not on it, looks like pullets to me in this pic.
The bird in the 2nd pic I'm guessing is the same red/white bird in the first? My guess is this is a pullet as well based mainly on the 2nd pic.

The white birds look like they could be white rocks and the odd colored bird looks like a red star. A red star is a red roo like a RIR over a Delaware or a bird with the same coloring also know as a red comet.

That's my guess anyway,
Chris
