My peahen White Spot laid an egg this evening!! WE HAVE A PEA EGG HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wee.gif

She honestly was in labor -- she paced & called & paced & called -- dug out a shallow place in the front corner of the run (of course she ignored my beautiful nesting area I made)!
the others gathered around her & all sank down in a circle & kept her company as just after sundown she crouched in her place & finally - laid the egg.

After that, they all got up & wandered away & totally ignored the egg, so I went out & got it & popped it into my bator.

Now I have to set up my old bator so I can use it as a hatcher & let this other egg incuabate an extra week. If it's even fertile -- but I think it is, as I heard them sounding off w/the "trombone" noise -- very differerent from any other call I've ever heard them make.

Yeah!!!! Hope it hatches.

Gracie, congrats on the chicks.

I have 3 new sebbies that hatched over the last couple of days. This brings me to a total of 14 goslings. Your little "hussie" is responsible for 12 of them and is still setting on eggs. She's sure earned her keep this spring. Not bad for a newby barely a year old.

The gray girl that I kept from last spring was the first to go broody this year, and she did en excellent job as well!

No peeps yet Terri. And I am a nervous wreck. I'm starting to think that the was cracked open was the only fertile egg.

I'll keep you posted. I have a long weekend of being nervous. I hope that I don't binge on chocolate and forget about my juicing. LOL

Oh crapola! Bringing home a mature hen really brought out the differences in my flock. We bought the Leghorn cockeral because we had decided that our bantam barred rock was definately NOT a boy and guess who the first one was to side mount my girl? It surely wasn't the Leghorn. It also was funny as all get out to watch cause the poor Guy just isn't quite big enough to get the job done. Unexpected but not quite surprising as we went back and forth on it for a while. The big surprise this morning was when my black ee hen mounted her. Evidently the ee hen is not a hen. Needless to say I have a 3 month old white Leghorn to sell or trade for a girl.... LOL we will see how the other two get along as they have done fine this long so it might be able to work...

Here's a pic of my peacock & guinea eggs in the bator -- this was before I added the 3rd peacock egg. What a hassle new software can be! I went to download pics from my camera & realized we never had installed the software on the new home computer. Well, it won't take my old camera software so we had to put the new software -- which I then had to teach myself how to use to downsize & crop photos & all that!
anyway, I *think* I have it figured out enough to post a pic now! then I have to put the fun away & finish my last lesson plan & take my finale exam in my acct. course!

Happy Memorial Day to all - & we remember & honor all of our veterans.

Good mornin' Terri and the rest of the La-yers and BYCers.

Happy Memorial day to all ya'll and especially our veterans who have served and are currently serving.

Hope you have good luck with your hatch congrats on the pea fowl egg Terri. I know you've been anxiously awaiting them to lay for you.

I too am not too hip on techno. advances either, about the time I get something figured out they update it to better, (easier), more, ...ect BS and me the dense-headed feller I am, has to start all over again. I wish it was like riding a bike, once you got it you basically got it. Not with computers for me, I DONT GOT IT,LOL

The reds are good and they love to get out every evening and graze. They are the last to come in, I think they'd stay out all night but they are easily enticed to come to beddy-bye time with a little bit of scratch grains, mind over matter, huh? hehe

good day all

Jeff
