"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Barred, try rosemary, mint or bay leaves (we used real, not dried) for the flies. Vanilla or the citrus fruit is good for the mosquitos :)
Will have to try those then. Everybody on BYC talks about how great the vanilla is for flies!!

I'm wondering if fragrance oils will work?? I have some Fresh Squeezed Oranges FO I use to make candles & sprays with. I also have some peppermint essential oil too!! Whatcha think???? I guess it would be worth a try to give it all a go huh?? I might end up planting some rosemary all around the coop!!

Lost 2 more turkeys!!

I almost lost two sebbie babies this morning because they got wet and cold overnight when their legs slipped through the wire on the bottom of the cage. I thought the 1/2" X 1" wire would be okay for them since they were nearly two weeks old. BIG mistake! When I got to them this morning 2 out of 3 were wet, cold, and practically lifeless. I brought them inside and put the strongest one back under the light, and the other two that looked almost dead I put back into my incubator to get their body temps up quickly. After an hour in the incubator they could pick up their heads. After three hours in the incubator they could stand up. This evening they appear to have recovered. They are eating, drinking, and walking around. One has a sore leg but hopefully that will be better in a few days. I feel very lucky to still have them this evening. That was close!

Thanks!! I'm so glad yours are okay!! I just don't know what else to do. Their so big that they won't fit in the brooder or tractor. I have an idea that I'm going to try tomorrow. But lord knows how many will still be alive tomorrow, it rained quite a bit today and they were just hanging out in it like is was nothing!!

I guess we'll see and see if my idea will work.

I wish that I could help you but I don't know anything about turkeys. How does Julie keep hers?
