In april I got 6 hens and a rooster. Two are pure bred Rhode Island Reds and the others are mixed with Brahmas---I think. It's been quite a lot of work for me because the coop is still being built. They are trained to hop into a dog kennel with roosting bars that's attached to a flat dolly in the evening. Then they get rolled onto my patio for safety. They free range all day and I've been lucky not to lose any to predators. My rooster fought off a cat and had no injuries other than being really sore for a few days. What do you have?

Love all the baby pics! Terri, thank you for those ideas. I am going to read up some more tonight on our options.

Will there be a swap soon? Is it July 3? Was it June 3? I am looking for 2-6 week old Welsummers...or older. :D
I just got 13 welsummers a month ago from a guy in arnaudville. Supposedly the parents are from whitmore farms. I can see if he has any if you'd like.

I have Ameracaunas & Welsummers, but no roos - heritage Rhode Island Reds - 2 pullets who just started laying and a roo (who may or may not be around much longer - I really don't like roos in my laying flock & that's all I have them for, pets & laying eggs -- not breeding) -- and peacocks & guineas. Currently have peacock eggs in the incubator, 14 guinea keets & 1 pea hatched 2 days ago.

My favorite new little chick has a cross beak. This is my first time raising a cross beak chick and I hope she survives. She is so sweet and just beautiful! I'll post a picture in a bit.
