"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Ok moved two pea eggs into the hatcher this morning! These are from my peacocks - my very first ones - candling showed dark blobs inside but I couldn't tell if any movement or not & didnt' want to leave them outside too long so will hope for the best.

I can't believe none of ya'll want any guinea keets! they are the cutest things! C'mon I have 10 of them looking for a good home -- don't you want some natural pest control?

Walked into my utility room at 4 a.m. because I heard my one peachick hollering - the little brat was perched on top of the brooder box! Time to get a lid or move them to the bigger, enclosed outside brooder!

LOL @ the little brat was perched on top of the brooder box. I had a lid on my brooder on Day 7. Those little jokers can fly. And no more truck rides for "Prince". He is flying all around the truck while I"m driving. :barnie

Terri, we need more pics of the baby pea. I know he has grown. PICS PICS PICS!!! :pop

Here is a pic of some baby keets that were hatched by a lady that I gave guinea eggs. She sent me a pic this morning.

Terri, I have about 6 guinea eggs in the incubator along with the pea and turkey eggs. Why? I have no idea. :smack I"m on overload.

LOL @ chicken math. Terri, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH ALL OF THAT ?????? !!!!!!!!!!!! :lau I can give you names of people who have dropped by my house and have wanted to buy peafowl. Just let me know.

Terri, I picked up 2 more bottles of wine yesterday in hopes of popping them open when you text me once the peas start hatching. :lau

I'm taking suggestions on types of SWEET wines - and I mean SWEET SWEET. :drool

Well, I have to get them all hatched first! Seriously, yes, I will be rehoming some of them if I get a good hatch-- I'd have to take a 2nd job in order to house & feed all of them!

It's sure going to be hard to decide who goes & who stays. Of course Amtrak is staying!

I have a bottle of Yellow Tail moscati chilling in the fridge now! It's an Australian wine & fills my criteria of inexpensive, lol! It's nice, mellow - sweet to me, as I usually like dry chardonnay or Zellerswartz Katz both of which are on the tart side.

Just talked to Jim & the humidity is hovering at the 50% mark; I'll boost it a couple more degrees when I get home this evening - I want it around mid-50 mark since there's just 2 eggs in that big 'ol Hova.

Wow just think, one month from today all this year's hatching will be OVER -- and I'll be in St. Louis watching my dear friend show her magnificent silver buff boy Sully - that's the same dog she showed at Westminster that I didn't get to go see!

Chicken math here as well. Just sent 18 keets to a new home. Put 1 doz. guiena eggs (not sure of age) and 2 doz del/bl. wyandotte and 4 eggs from a chicken that could possibly be a speckled sussex but has a lot of white speckling. Added 8 duck eggs yesterday (my nephew has a drake and 2 hens and has been saving the eggs). The ducks were such a mess on our first duck hatch that my daughter and I vowed no more ducks. She asked why was I putting in more duck eggs

. We are having a ball hatching out eggs and everything has gone to nice homes. The first batch of keets (20) went to a guy on 20 acres with some of it overgrown in wooded area. He has a big pond and he ended up with the 5 mallard we hatched as well. Another guy has taken 30 of the chickens we have hatched thus far. I offered two hens to my boss and she had her husband build a small coop and run. I delivered those this past Sunday afternoon. We are past due for turning off the incubators this far south but can't seem to pull the plugs. On Saturday I delivered two 6mo CornX hens to a guy with a beautiful white rock roo and he will let me know when he starts getting eggs. We'll have to run a batch of those through to see what turns up. At another friends place we put a 5mo CornX roo on 4 delaware hens and I'm sure we'll have to see how those turn out as well. These are the same del hens that I hatched a couple of eggs from. They were with a Blue Wyandotte roo at the farm where I got them from. Been busy here but my daughter is having the time of her life. We actually live in town and have a small coop in the back yard. We currently have two of BigMedicine's project birds we hatched 2 months ago and another little mutt hen we hatched at the same time. Here is a pic of the dellie cross chicks that hatched yesterday.

I can't wait to see what your final count will be. LOL :gig

And of course Amtrak HAS to stay. No doubt about that.

I think I saw Yellow Tail Moscati at CVS yesterday when I was browsing the "You Have To Buy Me When Hataching Pea" wine section. :p

So no more hatching in a month huh? How do you feel about that?

Make sure that you take plenty of pics for us to see. If you have more pics of your dogs, please post. I don't think that the new La-yers had a chance to see those beautiful babies of yours. Just gorgeous. :love

Well guys, here is a pic of my first time hatching eggs from my 2 Sizzle pens. I originally set 15 eggs, all 15 developed and made it to Lock-down and out of the 15 eggs, 14 hatched.
Pen 1 is a dark buff Silkie roo over a buff Sizzle hen and 2 partridge Sizzle hens.
Pen 2 is a blue/black splashed Silkie roo over 2 black Sizzle hens.
What colors are you all seeing here?

I have about 30 more eggs that I'm waiting on. 15 more go into lock-down on Sunday and another 15 or so about 7 days later. I have 15 that I collected that I will be setting tomorrow night as well. Just for fun I switched the 2 roos around and I'm going to wait a couple weeks and start collecting eggs again just to see what colors I get with that combination.
Anyone interested in some Sizzles? LOL!!!! Half of these will feather out like a Silkie and half should feather out like this hen...

With all these chicks that I'm hatching out and also with any luck I’ll hopefully be able to get me a few more hens of different colors to use as breeders for next year!!!

Chris

OMG, I think they are too cool! Maybe when I have more room I will have to get some of these, lol!
