We used wood chips in our chicken tractor for a couple years. We really liked it, but it would get expensive for the large area I have to cover now.

Might look around for someone that has a saw mill my neighbor does and is glad for me to come get saw dust from him. He's glad to get rid of the head-ache of having to move it and pile it up himself. I get it by the truck load at a time but now have a trailer with tall sideboards and will park it underneath the spout and fill it up over a duration of time and pull it home with a tractor cover it and use as needed, saves a lot of SHOVELING that way.

Well this sucks. Was notified about 30 minutes ago that failure of a dam on the Pearl River Diversion canal is imminent. St. Tammany parish has issued mandatory evacuation for everyone on the east side of LA 41 between Bush and Hickory (north of Pearl River). I live 3/4 mile from LA 41 on the west side in Bush and therefore outside the mandatory zone. Hoping the water stays clear of me as I have too many animals to move.

People on the wrong side of the road that have no transportation are lining up waiting for buses being sent by the parish to get them. Say a prayer for all those in the way of the water.

Thanks for the prayers Kuntrygirl. Gosh, for a Cat. 1 storm, Isaac sure has and is causing a lot of trouble for a lot of folks!

I have friends who live in the mandatory evac zone, but at the highest point in the area: They won't leave. The sheriff tried to get them to go, but they are refusing. Deputy told them to expect more than 10 feet of water when the lock/dam lets go. Everyone is getting their boats ready just in case we need them to get out or get people out.

We have a creek 1/4 mile from us that actually starts on my property. They have told us to stay alert that the water may back-flow up the creek toward us. We are on fairly high ground ourselves and I really hope the water stays clear: My next door neighbor is SW Horse Trading company and he has at least 40 horses in his fields right now. Fingers are crossed this doesn't get ugly by tonight.

Got you on our prayer list -- this has been the most unpredicatable hurricane ever. Water is finally receding here.

Do any types of chickens come in purple and gold colors? Or even better, do any lay eggs of those colors? Sure could sell a bunch of them this time of year if they came in those colors....

If you need help with anything don't hesitate to ask. You have my # and you know I'm only a hop, skip and a jump from you. I was over that way yesterday and saw my sign made it through the storm ok!!!! I stopped and got a diet coke at the Shell right there and saw it.
