"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Morning ya'll. Wet outside. The mosquitoes were out in record numbers on last night. I have been fogging the last few days but it was terrible last night. I was out spraying Avon Skin SO Soft in the coops and chicken houses and on top of the chicken houses because the turkeys roost on top. The skeeters ran me back in the house. This is unreal. When do the skeeters LEAVE? I"m ready for them to GO!!!!!

When it gets super cold, be careful for what you're wishing for! LOL

On the other hand good mornin' La-yers and Byc-ers too.

They are pretty terrible over here as well.  We buy a spray for horses at TSC and use it on the dogs to keep the deer flies away.  It works so well that my husband has started using it when he does yard work lol.  Smells like citronella, but he thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread!

What is the name of the spray? I will have to try that as well Gracie. I"m desparate. I don't like seeing those skeeters on my animals.

Mosquitoes are terrible here, too -- we've been fogging twice a day. I sure don't need West Nile or fowl pox either one.

We use a grass catcher too, plus rake up freshly cut grass for the poultry & peas - they all love it! Never thought of putting it in the nest boxes - will have to try that!

I know there were a couple ads for peacocks in the last Bulletin Julie - might tell that lady to check there. No white ones though - blackshoulder & india blues if I remember right. Craigslist has them occasionally too. Petrus Feed & Seed here might still have some peachicks or know of somebody who does.

hdowden, your list looks great! now who or where do we send dues & how much to join the Cenla club?

I guess I"m not fogging enough. I have only been fogging once a day. I surely don't want West Nile. I have already had to deal with the pox this year and I DO NOT want to deal with it again. :barnie

I looked at the Market Bulletin yesterday and I called 1 lady but she said that she was sold out. I have not been able to get in touch with the other person. I will have to tell that lady that she can keep an eye on the Market Bulletin as well. There are a LOT of people looking for peafowl. I wonder why? People call me or stop by frequently wanting to buy my birds but I"m not selling anything. All of them want adult peas. Not sure if they know what they are getting themselves in to though. :/

Hey Terri.

Not trying to be a "smartie-britches" or sound as "a know-it-all", but JFYI but make sure you use dry grass(hay) for the nest box as the green stuff will lay in there and rot and be all nasty an'stuff, LOL
You'll have to have a pretty high threshhold in the front of the nest to keep them from kicking it ALL out on the ground it is one of their favorite pastimes during the boring day before they get out to scratch in the (real deal) LOL

Jeff

PS yeah more DATA(input) here on this Poultry club I'm interested as ya'll are just down the street from me, 'bout 17 miles or so to the south.LOL

Hey "smartie-britches", oops, I mean Jeff, (LOL), I have a 4 foot tall pile of dry grass from this last cut. It should be ok if I just pile it up under my covered shed out of the elements and just use as I need it huh? Tell me what you think Mr. "know-it-all". LOL. Just kidding Jeff. :p

As long as the grass has had a chance to dry I think it would be fine!

This is the link to that spray my hubby likes.

Thanks Gracie!

Can provide 17 days of fly control. WOW!!!! That must be some good stuff!! :thumbsup

First there was UltraShield and now there's UltraShield EX, the new standard in fly control protection from Absorbine. UltraShield EX is the first weatherproof, sweat-resistant formula that can provide 17 days of fly control. It's the hardest working insecticide-repellent around and it can even be used on dogs.
