In the Brooder
Hey y'all!
I owned Orpingtons and loved this forum as a teen in 4H nearly 15? years ago. I have a small flock of 13, we raise breeder stock Cream Legbars and there are many past threads here on their history that I turn to often. I started with Privett hatchery birds 3 years ago, very hardy, beautiful true blue eggs and clear markings on chicks for auto-sexing. They weren't Cream in color and sure, I felt a little duped as I came to understand the Standard of Perfection. Every year after I was disappointed with my hatchery orders - down became less distinguishable on chicks and structure became dangerously incorrect.
Fb groups steered me towards private breeders and I have since taken over part of the flock my breeder retired. Our NPIP/AI testing is next week, boy am I am feeling the pressure to continue on these lines as a novice - like just got our first hatch EVER in the incubator. But I am also so proud of what I have learned and what many birds have taught me as I have searched for these guys. Here to learn more. Thanks for reading and letting me blab about Legbars! You def gave my family at least 15 minute break, here's some pics
