A year ago I mentioned chickens to my husband and he thought I was crazy. Six months ago, I talked him into it and it's been a pretty cool experience. I had chickens as a kid for a few years but didn't really have the experience, seeing as my parents did all the work! Tractor Supply was having their Chick Days, we went, and I convinced him! We can't have a rooster so we stuck to the pullets vs. the straight run. I had a few scares thinking we had a couple of roosters because of their coloring but ended up with 6 beautiful Barred Rock hens! We got our first egg when the hens turned 16 weeks and within a month they were all laying! They are now about 26 weeks. Well, Tractor Supply had another Chick Days! We now have 6 more, what I hope are also all pullets, that are 6 weeks old. They had a variety this time. We now also have 2 Isa browns, 2 Silver laced Wyandottes, and 2 White Leghorns. I am maxed out which is unfortunate because if I could I would have many more! My kids love their chickens and I love the experience they're getting! My husband even likes them, but now he refers to me as, "the crazy chicken lady"!
