I have been raising a very small flock of hens for the past 3 years. I started with 6, then moved to 12, then to 18 and now have 50 (mostly hens). I love to incubate eggs each spring so my young grandchildren can begin to understand the cycles of life. This year I hatched 17 new chicks that were all from my hens and the one rooster I have. I also bought 25 day old chicks and 3 Marans (2 month old hens and a rooster).

I have 3 grown children who love our farm fresh eggs and have put an egg sign in the front yard...I have lots of happy customers for these free range chicken eggs. I suspect in the fall when these young hens mature, I will have a booming egg business, which is really a hobby. The egg money pays for my chicken, sheep, and dog food expenses. We are building a new half-hoop coop to house all of the birds, as we have outgrown our make-shift coops and brooders.
