We recently got 8 chicks, 2 Comets, 2 ISA Browns, 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 Welsummers. One of the Welsummers died after a couple of days but she seemed weak from the get-go. It's been about a month and they are doing great! With the Covid quarantine, my husband, 2 adult kids and I have been able to devote lots of time to caring for them. Our dog, Daisy LOVES them. I think they kind of love her too.

We built them a temporary coop about 10 days ago and they've been doing well in there. We have a small, fenced-in area in our yard that we reinforced with mesh and netting to keep them safe and contained. We've been keeping the heat lamp on at night for them, but we'll probably be able to end that soon as summer approaches.

My husband grew up on a "farm" with chickens so I'm just followiing his lead but would appreciate any advice and tips from folks here. I just adore them and we all enjoy picking them up and petting them which they seem to enjoy as well. I'm very impressed with their bug-catching skills!
