love the golf ball idea !

I put some of my older golf balls in 3 out of 6 nesting boxes. The girls have begun to lay at 16 weeks 3 days ( 4 out of 12 of them) and they love the boxes. They're so sweet and tender with eggs or golf balls- quite touching to watch!

We used white and orange golf balls and they didn't seem to care or notice. Glad it worked for you!!!

We got our first egg after putting golf balls in the nesting boxes. Of course, the first day our lady layed on the floor of the coop... The second day we found her egg on the ground in the pen... The third day she laid in the nesting box... Today is the fourth day... we'll see what happens!! Thanks for the great info BYC.

We have girls that like to get out and not lay in the nesting boxes. When we'd find their new spot and take the eggs they'd move on and the hunt would be on again. We had always had golfballs in the boxes so when I found the last spot and took the eggs I replaced them with 2 golfballs and they lay there everyday now. I don't care where they lay the eggs as long as I can find them. Color hasn't mattered. Another bonus of the golfballs is that if you have chicken snakes, like we do, ingesting a golfball will kill them.
