Hi can anyone tell me if this is a cockrel, I was hoping not but the large tail feathers and incandescent black, blue and green feathering leads me to believe it is a cockrel according to Google, so seeking BYC knowledge

Hmmm. Normally I would say pullet based kn that crest. But I think I see pointed saddle feathers too, which means male...

I'm not sure. Can you Get a picture with a piece of paper under a saddle feather to show the shape easier?

Disclaimer: I'm not great at this.

But... looks girly to me. That poof is very round. Males usually have very funky hairdos and very red combs and wattles. First, black chickens have iridescence. I have 2 Polish pullets. Both have rather long tails as compared to my other breeds (which are many). And Myrtle has feathers that look almost like saddle feathers, as does your bird. Those saddle feathers are the only thing that make me question that it's a female

Will try with a piece of paper, this chick does act rather manly jumping, bouncing chests and trying to dominate my other males

Really a pretty bird!

My Myrtle will confront anything. My dogs are terrified of her.

It's still dark here on the west coast. I'll try to get pics of Myrtle's long tail and saddle-looking feathers once the sun comes up.
