I do like the sandy-colored birds, but my favourites are the v. dark birds.
Now, you guys gotta be the next generation. Gotta tackle the serious data-gathering.
'Classical' Emu Markings on Head and Neck
Every emu has a different configuration of feathers and skin colour from the base of the neck up. And there is a sorta 'classical' configuration, certainly the steely-blue skin color is part of that.
But I really like the dark birds, and this female turned up recently (and leaned on Number One's dreams by sneaking right up, to try to eat her wheat). She's tall, has fine posture, and a remarkably dark neck and head:
