lover of all things diy and chickens!!!

Take a look at the Coop section here. Members have been sharing their coop designs here for free, and members comment on them. So you get the design, usually with pictures and details, along with comments from members and ratings.

Chickens and other poultry need a LOT of ventilation, summer and especially winter (isn't that weird seeming). Their poop is very full of ammonia and needs a lot of ventilating, about a foot of ventilating per chicken is the rule of thumb. And you want to create a chimney effect where there is a draw of air near the bottom (but not a draft!) to pull out near the top, where most of the ventilation would happen. Then you need to be sure that rain or other precipitation won't blow in through the ventilation holes. Usually people use big overhanging eaves. Look at the options. A lot will depend on your climate. Folks in cold climates like mine need a very different coop design than folks in Texas or Florida or other hotter climates where the bigger issue is heat dissipation.

Best wishes with your DIY and chickens and all your plans! RJMYooper will be thrilled, and you might win a Quacker Prize if you manage to design an all in one coop for ducks and chickens both!
