Lovin our new little coop and run, i think the girls like it too! ******pictures*****

This is beautiful! And your girls are adorable. Is that chicken wire enough protection for them though? I have read that it should be hardware cloth if you are going to leave them in the run all day. Unless the bigger area is predator proof.

Hi Peeps, Thanks for the compliments on the coop and also bringing up the safety. Many newbies like me are not always aware of the determination and ingenuity of a hungry predator!!! I really made sure if you look close at the pictures to use a quality gage wire, and have the chicken wire fastened securely between two pieces of wood not just attached to the wood from one side. I live in town, and have a six foot wooden fence around a quarter acre so dogs aren't a worry(actually had a 50lb high energy bad mannered foster dog lunge at the coop and she bounced right off no damage to chicks or coop). Daytime predators would be house cats, hawks, crows, and night time coons, weasels, foxes, possums, badgers. The girls will be locked safely inside the coop at night for sure. The foundation is cinder block pavers buried in the ground surrounded by 4 inches of stone. I hope this is enough to protect my little urban flock. I have spotted a badger on the outskirts of town once and last week we had a cougar euthanized on the city bike path for hanging around in town too long, so I guess a really determined large predator(ie bear/badger) might have a chance but they are pretty rare in the daytime. If i see any signs of animals trying to get in I plan on reinforcing the bottom two feet with hardware cloth too!! yes I know too well as a kid watching my birds succumb to horrible fates because we didn't protect them properly(ie pulled through the wire by coons) so be assured i have considered the safety factor :) Julie
