Hello - I am a newbie to the site and to chickens. Feeling excited and overwhelmed.

I have 5 chickens approx 8-10 weeks old, mixed breeds, all hopefully egg layers to be.
I built a coop and pen with the help of my super-handy father...it's cute and functional!
We live in a semi rural suburb of the Seattle area on 5 acres.
I purchased 2 ducklings at the same time I got the chicks and after 4 weeks, found a good-new home for them (discovered I don't like the ducks...but love my chicks...and the ducks were picking on them!).

Other than chickens, I have one husband, two children (4 years and 6 mo.) one very plump Jack Russell Terrier and two goldfishies.

Other interests; horses, hobby farming, baking, politics and making things from paper (party banners, cards, etc.).

I will be posting and researching many silly questions on this site.
Cheers!

from GA ask away and trust us I think when some of us started we have either asked the same or sillier questions but it is always better to ask.

Welcome to you and your crew!

Yeah, first starting out w/chickens can be a bit overwhelming, especially wanting to do everything "right." But you'll soon find it's quite easy to take care of chickens

Have fun with your birds as they grow and develop!

welcome to the wonderful world of backyard chickens! We have 6 six month old chickens- we got our second egg today and we are sooo happy. I couldn't have done it without BYC. I think I asked the stupidest questions, but I wasn't raised with chickens so it's something I had to learn from others!
