low hatch rate

I do store them pointy end down but that was about the extent of my storage. They sat room temperature for about a week and then went in the incubator. So when I remove the egg turner for lock down I should place the cloth towels under the vent holes so I can moisten then without opening it? I think this is what I will try for next time. that and perhaps change the room it is kept in to one without a ceiling fan.
You might want to read up on storing eggs. A week is a long time under ideal situations. If left out at roon temp, that might be too long and affect viability. Best wishes and happy hatching! And yes, I use a straw to get the hot water on the paper towel without splashing the eggs.

I have a tube I put through the vent holes, Then I use a syringe to squirt water into the incubter through the tube. Either into the tanks or on to rags.

You could store eggs for up to 2 weeks or longer before setting them, but after 10 days the hatchability of the eggs drops significantly and after 18 you may start having problems. Ideally eggs should be stored at a temperature of 60*F-62*F, a RH of 75% and turned or tilted at least once a day to keep the yolks centred. It is always better to store the eggs no longer than a week though.

Humidity wise I do the same as the above posters. I found I could fit a straw through the vent hole in my incubator and use that to drip water onto a rag I place in the incubator during lockdown. It's a little time-consuming, but it works.
