I have 6 week old chicks that have had the heat light on only at night, temps down to 45 tonight and 33 by Wednesday. They have nice feathers going, can I start leaving the light off at night? I’ve never done fall chicks, so I’m not sure how to handle temps going down.

If they are fully-feathered, acclimated to the outdoors, dry, and out of the wind they should be fine.

Some people provide a huddle box for them to snuggled together in, but even though I give them one mine have always refused to use them.

Are they acclimated to the outside or are they kept indoors?

They are in a south facing brooder with the option to go in or out. They do go out, but often go back inside.

It’s an outdoor free standing brooder.

That's perfect for getting them acclimated!

Do they even sleep under the light? Before I got the brooder plate I'd find mine on the other end of the brooder once their feathers grew -- they actually avoided the heat lamp.
