Lowe's Playhouse Coop... I need ideas for working shutters.

I finally built my banty coop! I put hardware cloth up on the windows but I need to find an easy way to close the windows up for rain and in the winter for warmth. I am talking about the side windows and the window in the half door. I can't figure out how to use the shutters it came with for more than decoration. Any ideas would be appreciated! Pictures would be wonderful!

I've seen others use picture frames from target to make windows. Otherwise, I'd have some nice, thick plexi cut (find a glass store or maybe even home depot?) and install it with sliders or maybe even hinges. I'm pretty sure you can drill into it without splitting it.

Not completely sure which playhouse you have, but it sounds similar to mine.

We put hardware cloth on the inside of the coop and used clear silicone to install pieces of plexiglass in each window frame. I'm hoping the windows themselves will cut the cold, and we will be able to open the shutters for sun in the winter.

This is the sweetest little coop! Wish I had done that instead of trying to learn how to build one...lots of headache for a novice builder. Your chickens are probably as cute as the coop!

Thanks - I bought several different sets of plans, thinking I'd get at least some help with the construction. DH was not at all interested in starting from scratch!

When he started looking at utility sheds, I decided to go the playhouse route. DH built the run, and I was able to put the playhouse together myself. I'm totally happy with it.

CityChook--I am thinking plexiglass for the window in the door. For the side windows I can't seem to find hinges that would work the way I want.

Nana2KJS-- Your playhouse is a bit cuter than mine. I purchased mine last year and it sat around all winter so it is probably an older model. I did install the hardware cloth on the inside. Where did you get those hinges? I love the way your windows open and close! I may have to trim my shutters because they wouldn't fit inside the window.

I found these pivot hinges at woodworkers hardware. Depending on how your windows & shutters are installed they might work similarly to the way mine were set up.
