Lowest chicken in the pecking order

There will always be a low chicken.

The dynamics of the flock change with the individual birds. Your dominant hen may calm down after a few days in lock up. Second in command may get worse. You just don't really know until you try it.

Sort of like "time out for a wayward hen". Just don't have anyplace seperate to put her. I've never needed to quarantine a bird. yet.

I would really try to get the blu-kote on your girl. I've had this work really well, unless the chicken being picked on is just too complacent, as is the case with a polish roo that I have. I cannot under any circumstances put him in my main coop. He will simply run to a corner and try to hide his head

Unfortunately this tactic doesn't work and they just keep at him. I have tried everything with this boy so he can go out and be a normal chicken, all to no avail. He is just too easy going, and is destined to live with my young birds, unless I can find an appropriate home for him. I hope you can work things out between your girls!

When my boys started to fight I just grabbed them up by the tail - You have to be careful to grab a good handful so you don't drop a bird or hurt them by pulling out feathers!!!! I found a few moments hanging upside down thinking about what they were at changed their behaviour!!!!! I only had to do that a few times before they got the message. I also did this with my Mable who was a very fiesty pullet! She is now best friends with some of our new and weakest girls. She even turned on me once and started pecking my coat because I lifted one of the new girls! Maybe she thought I would turn her upside down???? Anyhow thats what I did to discourage bullying. I would remove a naughty hen for a few days to push her down the pecking order too that is helpful for the other birds. You can't let them hurt eachother. There is a big difference form the odd peck at the back of the neck to show who is boss and - all out bullying. Mable would litterally grab one of my roos and stomp on him then call her brothers to "help"!!!!!!

Oesdog - good luck!!

She's not really complacent. She gets right in the middle of things like when it's treat time. She doesn't hide or anything. So maybe if I spray her head blue the "she devil" chicken will leave her alone? If that doesn't work, I'm tempted to give the mean one away.
She's never been a very nice gal anyways. I have 12 hens and never intended to have that many. There's only my husband and I.
Never dreamed we actually end up with all hens.
