Lucky new girls...just before the next snow arrived

Of the 3 BA hens I kept over for breeding, 2 are in molt. *sigh* Although, I will add 2-3 eggs from the one who's laying. Some of my hatchery order are also BAs.

This will be my first attempt to hatch from the BLRW group. Probably a good time to test their eggs anyway. There are a couple younger Barred Rocks in that pen too. Since the roo is a Splash BLRW, the chicks from the BR cross would be blue. Maybe I'll try some of those too since the BR girls will soon go into the Sexlink or Barred EE breeding pens for a later Spring hatch. Might as well test at least a couple of their eggs this time.

Choices, choices.

I'd love to get some of those new EEs in with my spare Black Ameraucana roo. Well, still a ways to go on quarantime for them. Maybe for another later hatch.

Bwaaa Ha Ha ...as you can see I have no plans for the bator to get a break.

Next move on my new EE girls?.....
I'm mixing vaseline and grape koolaid powder to put on the picked ones bare spots tomorrow night. They don't show any bleeding, but there are some 'meanies' who don't want to stop picking. Really annoying to me as I never have birds picking each other. Now that they have good feed and vitamins in their water I expect that to stop! Anyway, artificial grape flavor for chickens is like cayenne pepper to mammals. SoooOOOooo...beween the vaseline and the koolaid powder, the meanies will get a bite full of something that'll make them quit that dern picking in short order.

They need a roo...lol...the dominant hens do the deed with the lesser ones.
