I just went out to get eggs and my very large Black Sex-Link was sitting and won't or can't stand up. I tried to help her and she just puts out a wing and lays back down. What can it be?? She doesn't seem to have any boken legs, because I checked. Has anyone got any suggestions??

Could she be eggbound? this site may help. http://www.avianweb.com/chickendiseases.html

When I found her she was in the bottom of the coop and I picked her up and she fell over spreading her wing. So I thought something is wrong with Lucy. I let all the other girls out in the yard so she could be alone and gave her a fresh bowl of water and she did crawl to the water a few inches from her. I put her back in the pen and she is just sitting there. I don't know if she has a obstructed egg, I have never had one. I don't know if this matters but the big girls are all 4 years old this month.

Lucy is hovering under a smaller coop that we have in their pen. To get there is about 6 feet from where I picked her up and put a bowl of water for her. When I picked her up her bottom is very hot. What could be wrong??

My first guess is rickets - a calcium deficiency cause their bones to weaken. My black sex links seems susceptible to this too. Try giving her some crushed up tums and Vitamin D drops to help get some calcium into her.

Best of luck,
Natalie

ETA: not sure about the hot bottom (my response was just based on the leg weakness and my previous experience with my Black Sex Links)

I am giving her some anitbiotics in her water per my neighbor. Her waddles are not as red as they should be and she seems to be breathing pretty hard. I went ahead and separated her and put her in a large crate. Thanks for the responses.
