Lump on the head?

One of my hens, Feather, has a lump on the right side of her head...behind the eye...where the "ear" is.

I felt it today, and it does not appear to be painful to her, but it is solid...like a cyst.

She does get pecked there a lot by her sisters.

It is not red, it is not hot...it's a lump about 1/4" tall and between a dime to a nickel in width.

Any ideas? I'm strapped for money this month...so, unless it's an emergency, I'd like the vet to be the last option.

That is an extremely delicate area and I suspect it is an abscess which if it is will need to be manually removed...
Personally I would not attempt that myself due to the area it is in...and I know you dont want to hear this , but I would take this one to the vet.
