The past week or so, I have been getting lumpy eggs. What could be the cause?

Thank you for the help!

Same hen? Or different hens? (That makes a difference in the answer).

If it is the same hen, as they age, their egg laying tract/mechanisms do too. They also tend to lay oversized eggs which rumple when the shell hardens. Birds just coming into lay also tend to lay all manner of funk until things settle.

If it is a sudden appearance in the flock, with a number of birds. Listen closely for any "nicking" or coughing or general ruffledness. You may have a viral illness about such as infectious bronchitis which can cause egg malformation. If they appear healthy, check your food and water. Calcium, Vitamin D, and several other deficiencies can cause malformations as well.

Some thoughts.

Very helpful!! Thank you. We aren't sure if its multiple or only one of the hens. We only have 3 laying, and 1 that should be laying soon. But maybe the young hen has started. They have also decreased laying because of the cold so its hard to tell which ones are laying.
Thank you so much for the help
