Jenny came home yesterday with clearance from the hospital to return to school. WHAT? I don't understand. A kid whose immune system is compromised back into the health cesspool of a public school? Maybe I'm over protective, but this is driving me nuts.

On the good side, her blood level counts are improving, and it appears as if there are no abnormalities with her spleen and liver. Some questions in regard to her kidney function still remain.

I believe in the power of prayer - was just hoping for a little more out of these doctors.

VERY positive update. I think that we were granted a mini miracle. Went to see Jenny today, and here is where we are. Kidney condition has gone from: Rapid kidney deterioration to decreased rate of deterioration to some signs of kidney function. The results of Friday's kidney biopsy indicate "Kidney damage of a degree that indicates probable complete recovery given a regimen of proper treatment and diet." Doctor talk for, "We think the kid will probably be OK this time."

More work is going to be instituted in an attempt to determine 'triggers' which are causing the flare ups coupled with a Lupus/kidney diet to minimize problems - a heck of a lot more positive than when we were notified on Wed. Apparently when she was put in ICU on Mon. things were touch and go for about 12 hours. Her arms, legs, torso and face are still bloated with retained fluids, but they are being flushed from her body gradually. Jenny is amazing. With us there she started questioning her Dad about : How sick was I really. Am I going to make it? What are my long term chances? Pretty heady stuff for a kid - He answered her candidly and quite honestly - a truly good moment.

Tonight I can sleep.

Yesterday was a GOOD day! It was our son's 48th birthday so the Princess and I made the trip to Annapolis to celebrate and attend a kids' soccer game. I haven't seen Jenny so happy in years. She feels good, and it shows - outbursts of laughter, and she was even ragging on her good old 'Pa'.

Accused me of passing gas in the kitchen when she was the culprit. Not sure what the doctors are doing, but for now at least it is working. She has hair regrowth of about 2" and actually is very pretty with that stubble. Told her she should keep it that short. "No way, Pa. Bald is OK on you, but not on me."

Right now, we are happy grandparents.
