Been fishing around the sight for a few years and got some chickens fall of '13. It was a late batch from the hatchery and the cheap "here are our last batches for the season" Out of the straight run of 15 (16 with free exotic) I got 6 hens and I kept one rooster. Working up production and adding more chickens now that the weather is nicer (long rough winter for Missouri) to sell more chicken eggs and meat.
Basically trying to get this little hobby farm of 5 acres going and sustaining itself. I have five turkeys now that I want to sell for thanksgiving. This year is my first toe-dip into providing food for people. So far I can't keep up with the demand just from my husband's work!
I never dealt much with chickens, turkeys, goats, or rabbits, all of which I have at least two of each now. But I did work with horses extensively, working as a trail guide at two different places, a barn worker/groom at a dressage/jumper barn, and a barn manager at a western pleasure barn. So farm critters do not rattle me and I have plenty of experience with the "icky and hard work" side (which to me isn't that bad).
Any suggestions are welcome! Just be gentle as I am a new to this farming stuff.
